Deanne Ellis
National Leader (Auckland)
Deanne Ellis teaches at a primary school in
Auckland. She was a PY on
SWY7 and loved it so much that 9 years later she applied for National
Leader of SWY16...and was successful. In between programmes Deanne
worked at a high school in Japan as an English teacher on the JET
programme. Deanne still has the travel bug and endeavours to save
money to travel!

Marni
Gallen (Christchurch)
Marni Gallen... aka Stepz, or Marnz.... is known for her love for
urban
hiphop and dance. She waspart of a Christchurch based danced crew
called
Zion for 2 years and taught urban dance for 5. Marns has recently
completed
her B.Com, majoring in Management, at Canterbury University. She's
also a
trained studio photographer and hopes to go freelance in the future.
Marni is currently fulfilling her travel ambitions and is based in
London after travels in Peru with her SWY 16 friends.

Ansa
Piggott (Wellington)
Ansa is 24 years old and has a double major in Art History and Classical
Studies, and a background in early childhood and youth work. Originally
from Dunedin, Ansa studied and gained her degree at Otago University.
In 2001 she travelled to Greece to study archaeological sites with
Victoia University. She has recently been based in Wellington working
at the National Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, where she
is was the Supervisor of the Inspiration Station, Te Papa's art and
history focussed Discovery Centre. Ansa is currently living in Peru
(2005). |

Melissa
Lelo (Auckland)
Melissa Lelo works at Auckland Regional Public Health Service as a
health promotion advisor in alcohol. A participant on SWY16 and involved
in many other youth organisations at various levels. Proud to be Pacific
and willing to share that experience with others. Keen to continue
travelling the world and meeting different cultures as a direct result
of being on SWY. |

Abigail
Haverkamp (Foxton Beach)
Abby, 25 years old, has a background in both winemaking and youth
work. After living in Australia and Canada in 2003 she is currently
based in Auckland where she is the Work New Zealand Co-ordinator at
International Exchange Programs, a non profit organisation that offers
works and travel opportunities to both New Zealanders and to overseas
participants who choose New Zealand as a working holiday destination. |

Parewhati
Taikato (Tauranga)
Parewhati is a 30 year old of Ngati Ranginui and Ngaiterangi descent,
with a background in teaching English as a Second Language in Japan
and Korea from
1999-2003. She is currently working in the local waterside industry
as a Stevedore in Tauranga.

Jay
Rerekura -(Whanganui)
23 years of age born and bred on the banks of the Whanganui river.
An avid advocate for Tikanga Maori, Jay has a background in teaching
and Community Health. Currently working as a community development
officer for Maori Development Organisation Taumata Hauora Trust,
he is dedicated to assisting Whanau and Hapu with their holistic
development. Jay has also had years of kapahaka experience both
nationally and internationally.In late 2004 Jay took up one of lifes
great challenges...fatherhood!!

Stephen
Holmes (Rotorua)
Stephen is 29 years of age, born and bred in Rotorua. He has worked
with the Police Youth development section for the past 3 and a half
years, working with youth offenders and their families. He also
runs a Youth Trust called eq8r, that runs youth events and programmes
for young people aged 10-14. Steves incredible talent as a singer
was discovered onboard the Nippon Maru in the Ship Idol contest.

Andrew
Fraser (Auckland)
Andrew is 20 years old and as of early 2005 has begun working in Sydney
for a consulting firm. He has been involved with youth work in his
community in many respects, including volunteering at the Mangere
Refugee Centre, assisting with the Books in Schools programme at South
Auckland Schools, and coaching a school-age rugby team. He wasDeputy
Chairman on the Auckland City Youth Council, and has represented New
Zealand (along with fellow SWY Alum Paul Zoubkov) at the International
Youth Parliament in Sydney from July 5-12. He enjoys rugby, a fine
wine, and the feel of the wind through his hair. |

Stuart
Bradshaw (Christchurch)
Stuart Bradshaw studied Physiotherapy in Otago before transferring
to Canterbury University to do Law. He was top Bursary composer for
1997 and organ scholar for Knox College Hall, where he became involved
in Christian youth-work. He has been national treasurer for NZ Student
Christian Movement for three years now, representing them at conferences
in NZ and Hong Kong, was a founding facilitator for ChChs Q-topia
(GLBT youth support), and writes for religious publications. His interests
include gender issues and interreligious dialogue, especially Islamic-Christian.
He hopes to practice in health and intellectual property law. |

Ramon
Narayan (Auckland)
Ramon is a
27 year old Youth Worker. He currently is involved in Youthline,
a phone counselling service for youth in New Zealand and also manages
a youth website called URGE, which provides useful information for
youth on issues such as alcohol, drugs and suicide.

Te
Oranga Witehira (Rotorua)
Te Oranga is 26 years old and is studying
a Bachelor of Social Work at Waikato University. Prior to this is
was based in Rotorua where he studied Outdoor Adventure Therapy,
taking at risk youth in to the outdoors. Te Oranga would like to
use his education to work especially with at risk Maori youth
